File Library - 'Cannot log in to ftp server'

Recommended Posts

Over the past few weeks I have had huge problems downloading from the library. I use Internet Download Manager -  I have done for years with no problem, on AVSIM or anywhere else. Recently I get an error window telling me that I 'cannot log in to ftp server'; '530 You may only perform three concurrent downloads at a time'.

I am only downloading one file at a time, and I have set IDM  to just one download at once. But it's no good - I get the same error message even so. I've logged out and back in, deleted my browsing cache/cookies.. nothing bhelps. It's so bad, I have had to go to other sites for my downlaods - where there are no error messages like this. So I guess it's an AVSIM problem?

If I wait 15 minutes, the problem seems to clear. Are we limited to the number of downloads we can make consecutively all of a sudden?

Please help me fix this.

Thanks

Martin

Nothing has changed from the past.  No changes were made in the server configuration.  I haven't tried downloading several files at once but I do have FireFox installed and use their download manager and it allows me to download a lot of files at a time.

Thanks for replying....

This is still going on I'm afraid. This is what I get when I disable Internet Download Manager - i.e., let Firefox itself download the file. Once I have downloaded a file (and the download is completed), I get this error message if I try to download another file from the library.

I am of course not downloading anything at all at the time the message appears, and have never downloaded more than one file at a time anyway (even with IDM running). It eventually clears if I wait several minutes, then I get the message again if I want a third file. It's as if a download limit per given time period has been imposed at AVSIM (it hasn't, has it?). (With IDM running, the message is the same, only it also says 'Can't log in to ftp server...').

I have two laptops here and both have the same issue. I can't see how the problem can be with me -  I never saw this before a couple of months ago - but if anyone can help, wherever the problem may lie, that'd be great.

As I said, I don't have the error occur at any other site, such as flightsim.com so I am starting to go there as my first port of call these days. :(

Same here, no way with Chrome or Mozilla, I tried to delete cache with no success. Everytime I get the same message "WEB PAGE NOT AVAILABLE"

Looking at the dates members reported the inability to download, this has been a long-term issue and not just related to our recent maintenance.

We have confirmed IE and Microsoft Edge (Windows 10) does not work.  I can replicate it 100% of the time.  Currently it is the only browser we have found that does not work and we are recommending everyone use FireFox or Chrome to download from our Library.  I use FireFox and have no problems.   We do not know why IE does not work but it happens on other websites too (I Googled “cannot download files in IE 11”) (you can change IE 11 to Chrome or Firefox if you have issues with those browsers).

Some have also reported problems with FireFox and Chrome too and that is discussed in the Library Forum.  The developers of FireFox indicate there might be problems downloading as FireFox uses the same security settings used in IE and they recommend resetting the IE security to the defaults.  I believe the whole problem is associated with a security update for Windows and/or the security settings in IE.  I have Microsoft Edge on one of my systems and the default settings of Edge do not work but FireFox works for downloading files..

Possibly connected, occasionally I’ll update a program on my computer and open it after it has been updated.  Suddenly the application closes without explanation.  I try again and a few seconds later it closes again.  This is the same thing happening when the app to download a file from our Library suddenly closes with the error message.  I really think it’s a Microsoft security update and need to try to track it down.   If someone could restore their system to a time when the downloads were working with their browser, this might confirm a Windows update is at fault.
