Whats the best night lightning enhancement in P3D?

Recommended Posts

...as the title says.

In FSX, the Aerosoft Night Environment packages look amazing. Sadly, in P3D, they look rather dull. After some googling I found a similar thread on the aerosoft forums where Chris Bell, creator of NE, said this:

this has been reported to LM by us directly few weeks ago;

they have confirmed this is an issue they are aware of; and will fix shortly;
this issue is not specific to NE; and doesn’t affect all P3D platforms!
it only effect very few GPU's, but not all!

in short (not that i know all the details),
HDR and Tessellation are a DX11 specific feature; NE by itself is compatible with HDR and all DX revisions,
it’s the GPU's that don’t always support or have trouble fully exercising the new architecture protocol,

if your GPU doesn’t fully support DX11,
P3D will operate in a DX10 limited functionality called “down-level hardware”, this is where things get little unpredictable,
you can read about down-level hardware here - http://www.prepar3d....tting_help.html
(scroll to Troubleshooting Video Card Support section)

If I turn off HDR, NE lights become a little more brighter, but not the extent as visualized in FSX. I often see pictures here from P3D with great night lighting (+HDR enabled) so I wonder whats the best alternative. UTX Night lightning or perhaps Taburet?

I've tried using FTX Lights configurator but night lightning seems to follow LOD radius.

CAVEAT >> I only fly in continental US

I have tried different lighting systems and nothing (IMHO) comes close to UTX v2 (US). The configurator even lets you choose spacing, size, colors, and which type of road you want each of these to display.

Is this in P3D?

Taburet's night lights have VAS and fps issues in FSX. Not sure how it works out in P3D, though.

How do ORBX Global lights look like in P3D?

I tried out Taburet's Texas add-on and it LOOKS amazing but brought my P3D and powerful system to a crawl over Dallas-Fort Worth.

I am staring at UTX 2.0 USA but I am bit afraid of it conflicting with FTX Global and also I am not sure if the UTX lights will overlay on top of MegaSceneryEarth.  That is one of the nice things about Night Enviroment and Taburet's, they WILL overlay on top of Photoreal scenery giving you the most realistic depiction of the US achievable in my opinion.    But.. if you UTX 2.0 can do that too then I will go with it but because photo real covers over Vector data and the lights are attached to the vector data I think it's a no go for UTX.   NE and Taburety are considered 'Custom Scenery' I believe and custom scenery sits on top of the photo real layer thus you get night lighting that is normally missing from MSE products by themselves.

Yes sir !

I don't know about possible issues with photo real scenery, but I have been running Global and UTX v2/USA for several months with no issues.

Thanks! Much appreaciated.

Does UTX night lightning take any FPS hit/VAS hit? I can also read that its based on autogen, so does it mean the range is dependent on your LOD radius?

Sorry..can't say.  The range of lights go plenty far out for my taste.   :smile2:    My flights are always 2 hrs or less and I've had no OOMs in a long time.  I don't measure FPS as I stay locked at 25 and can only report smooth flights.  I only fly payware a/c...either >  RealAir Turbine Duke,  Aerosoft's A 319/320 and FeelThere's Embraer 170 (migrated from FSX).  I prefer business jets over everything, but there's nothing worth flying in P3D.

Already wasted my $$ on 2 of Carenado's offerings.  Just biding my time for Eaglesoft XLS+ and/or return of F1 Citation Mustang  :Praying:

ORBX Open LC NA has the most outstanding night lights in all of flight simulation if you ask me. Very P3D V3 compatible, great with frames.

F1 Citation Mustang is a good bet.

Imho nothing beats Nightenvironment.

I also have UTX and tried once do compare and went back to NE right away.

BTW : the issue the topic starter described was there with an earlier P3D version and before NE updates.

With the latest P3Dv3 and latest NE packages you will have the best Nightlighting...
