Best ATC Software for P3D 2.5

Recommended Posts

Hi Elaine,

No microphone required for Pro ATC. It is menu driven. Menu not complex.

Thank you Graham for the reply.   So without having to use a Mic (speech recognition) its pretty much like using the default ATC,  clicking the menu with your mouse

Anytime Elaine,

Yes, like default, but more comprehensive. There are a few YouTube videos that you can watch. Might give you a better sense of the product. Here's one by Mike Collins. I believe he's a beta tester for the product:

The Default ATC drove me crazy, 15 turns back and forth when a straight line would have worked perfectly. Pro ATC is more like the real thing.

I am pretty sure there are not 10 different controllers I need to talk to in one ARTCC zone.   The author is aware of the problem and is looking for a solution.

I have actually hit 6 controllers in one zone.  Are you getting this in EVERY ZONE?  Would be great to know thanks.  Also altitude plays.  If in RVSM and depending on where you are, you can really go through some controllers in the RW environment.  I drive a CE-680 and when we get up to FL470, there is hardly anyone to talk to.

That all said though, thanks for the answer to the question.  Your advice will help me make my decision!

Respectfully,

Jet

I've read through this thread and think I might give Pro ATC a try.  I do have a couple of questions for those using it:

1 - Will Pro ATC account for AI traffic on departure and arrival?

2 - I have a Navigraph subscription will Pro ATC accepts updates from Navigraph?

3 - For GA if I fly a C182 for example but file an IFR flight plan does Pro ATC function correctly or is it limited to heavy AC?

4 - Is Pro ATC being maintained and developed?

Cheers

ad 1:  Yes, but not always perfect - I can live with that.

ad 2:  Yes

ad 3:  Never tried this. I have read that it should work, but you should fly to med-sized airports which have ATC.

ad 4.  ??? -  Currently the developer has disappeared from the forum since quite a long time. This also happened before but then after a long disappearance the dev. came back with an updated version. Frankly speaking, support does not meet current standards. (Not to say far beyond ...)

There is active support on the forum and I have used it and received suggestions and help. The support is handled by two moderators and they convey problems to the developer. You can also email the developer from their website, and usually get a response back from him the next day. I find the support as good or better than many other add ons that I have had. There is also a Facebook page that is run by Mile Collins where you can post questions and get answers. As opposed to VOX where support and active development  is non existent, I find the support for Pro ATC very good and they are still developing the program. BTW, it should work perfectly well for GA aircraft, You can make a file in the Aircraft Data set with the model, type, cruising speed, cruising altitude, climb rate, rwy length for takeoff and landing .  I made one for the Q400 and it works perfectly.

My word, the dissemination of misinformation is rife here! VoxATC is alive and well and truly supported.

Oh really . I had trouble installing it and despite several posts I received nothing in response. I finally gave up and got Pro ATC.

To be fair, the authour of Vox generally only responds to email requests. And he usually does. Having said that, unless the program has been updated, Vox only reads destination weather once. Therefore, if the wind direction changes at the destination during the flight; Vox will still clear you to land based on the original weather. If you want voice control it's the only game in town and I think pretty good.

I think ProATC is the best of an 'eccentric' lot. The program has the right idea and is well designed relative to its competitors. It needs work to allow the pilot more control over runway/altitude/route changes; and AI interection has to get better. The author has a habit of updating the software and then disappearing, at least as far as his customers are concerned. But eventually he surfaces with a new version.

Part of me wants someone like Aerosoft to develop a proper ATC program. But I really hope one of the existing authors gets it right and reaps the benefits. There has to be a reason that there are only a few folks trying to put out an effective ATC program. I can't imagine there is much that is more difficult.

I understand - the author does not frequent any forum but is very supportive if you drop him an email. The Unofficial VoxATC forum here at AvSim can also be very useful, and the program is updated as necessary for sim updates and the odd bugfix.

I enjoy VoxATC, RC4 and ProATC, but sometimes I can't be bothered to strap on a mike.
