Help! MFSX won't load.

Recommended Posts

During installation of new add-on scenery in the Add-on Scenery folder, somehow the Texture folder has now disappeared.

When I try to open MSFX, I get the message "Scenery read error. Attempting to open a non existent directory: C/program

files(86)//M Games/MSFX/texture. Click OK to continue."  I click OK and MSFX opens at the Free Flight page. I make my selection and click Fly Now.  But MSFX closes down and my Desktop appears.  I've checked the Recycle Bin in case I've wrongly deleted but nothing there.   What do I do now?   Any suggestions, please.     gpry.

I suspect you will need to run the FSX installer again, selecting "repair" to resolve that issue.

Or, before trying that, you could try creating a new (empty) folder in "Addon Scenery", called "Texture", and then try running FSX.

It could simply be that FSX's file integrity requires that folder to be there.

Good luck!

I have never seen FSX being installed in this folder. Maybe you are trying to abbreviate?  Not even the default install would have it in this folder.  Here's an excellent guide for uninstalling/installing FSX properly:  http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.

Best regards,

I think he was just using abbreviations for the directory:-

C/Program Files(86) / Microsoft Games / Microsoft Flight Simulator X / Texture

@gpry - In your original post you mentioned the texture folder in the Addon Scenery folder, but when I've looked again at the directory above, that's not the Addon Folder Texture folder, it's the main FSX Root file Texture folder.

FSX will definitely not run without that folder, so I'm pretty sure a re-install / repair is needed.

Thanks, Craig.  I'm grateful for all the advice and, deep down, I'm more or less reconciled to having to do

a re-install.  I'll use the guide you have recommended.   gpry.
