After about 8 years away from FS, I have finally decided to build a new system and get back in the "game".

Here are the parts on their way to my place:

ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150

MSI GTX 970 GAMING 100ME GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card

CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory

SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-75E500B/AM 2.5" 500GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Two purchased=1TB total)

Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced - High Air Flow Full Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0

EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified 1000W Active PFC ATX12V v2.31/EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire

Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit  (I already own this on disc and I'm hoping I can install it without issue.  It's been on this build since W7 was introduced)

I don't plan on OCing this rig.  I never have in the past, but I am open to it if necessary.  I would buy a CPU cooler if I did.  I own FSX but never really used it.  Didn't like the crashes, load issues, and autogen popping nonsense.  I was already heavily invested in FS9 with add-ons, however, a major computer failure wrecked that install and I never had time to rebuild.

I am looking at installing FSX for PMDG's MD-11 which I loved, but I am more interested in P3D this time around.  I hope it all comes together nicley.

Nice choice I have one you will like it

Why did you pick a Hero over a Formula

You should buy my brand new corsair water cooler for that in the hardware section - easy to install also - then you would be golden - oc or not I would never run air

The Formula didn't seem to offer much over the Hero for me personally.  I looked at a number of opinions/reviews/specs online and just didn't see a reason.

I'll decide on a cooler once it's built and I see what kind of room I have.  I have never used an aftermarket cooler and never OC'd though.  My systems all ran FS without any problems.  In FS9, my add-ons were limited (PMDG, REX, GEX, AS, few WOAI packs) and my performance was excellent.  I personally feel that OC can cause more issues than it's worth.  YMMV.

Good luck with it - but ocing on an asus is easy and well worth it - dont do that on air

Thanks.  I'll consider it if needed.  Gotta build her up first and see how it goes.  Obviously, I'll purchase a cooler if I OC (I might buy one either way).  I won't even be able to FS for a little while anyhow.  I'm looking at P3D as my go-to sim.  I own FSX as stated, but I don't own any add-ons and don't care for the prospect of tweaking all day and night.

I have the processor as well as the video card and I love it. I would recommend buying the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO. It's like $25 and a great cooler that will give you flexibility in the future.

Thanks Nick!  I was looking at the Noctua NH-U14S, but it was so big in the video I saw, I was afraid it wouldn't fit.  I mean it's huge!!!  I guess that's my concern, getting one that'll fit with all my other components.  I'm using all four DIMM slots as well.

That's a solid build.  But if you're willing to wait a bit longer Intel's next microarchitecture, Skylake, is just around the corner.  Late Summer, Fall-ish 2015.  Supposed to be decent.

But on the other hand I can understand not wanting to wait for the next best thing hehe.

I like it, but i think that a 1000W PSU is totally overkill. I'd get a 750W PS

Noctua NH-U14S is great for ocing.

Only two sticks of RAM (2x8) 'd be better in order to not stress the IMC. And you save few bucks.

Invest on Yokes and addons!

Cheers :)

I have a Corsair CX750 and its plenty powerful. If you read the reviews on the CX series they aren't great, except for the CX750.  I would actually say it is an amazing 650W power supply rather than a 750. Overall I am happy with it. As for the Hyper 212 EVO, it is huge, but I think almost all good air coolers are. it fits with all 4 of my DIMM slots taken, but I installed the memory before the cooler. Also I cannot use the side fan on my case, which is ok because I reinstalled it in the front anyways. The nicest part about the 212 EVO is how many people are using it. So if you are looking if something will fit with it, chances are someone has tried it.

The hero and formula have the same power delivery as far as over clocking goes. Just don't rely on the automatic vcore voltage if you clock higher than 4.4, Asus pumps way to much voltage for that modest clock on the 4790k.

You could drop that PSU down to their 850 series easily. Save a few dollars. Unless you plan on adding an additional GPU at some point. I have their 1200 P2 Platinum. It's a great PSU and a 10 YEAR, yes YEARS, warranty how can you go wrong?

I got my 4790K and Maximus VI Formula purring along nicely at 4.9Ghz. 75c stress testing.

Nice, what's your vcore and cooler? I couldn't touch that temp at 75c.
