FTX Central

Recommended Posts

Since my last Libs update I seem to have two versions of FTX Central Installed -  version 1 located in E:FSX\Orbx\Scripts and version 2 in Users\AppData\Local\Orbx.  Is this normal?  Furthermore after some installs (eg OLC) it opens the original FSX Central not version 2 and asks you to select the region you want fly in.  What I have noticed is that when this happens the settings in the two version may be quite different - so which one prevails?  Thanks.

(Repeat of post made at Orbx as no replies there after 24 hrs - I guess I need to be more patient)

Bruce whenever installing any orbx product that launches the old version just quit out of it and rule of thumb just execute the ftx central 2 version and do everything from that - no worries with the old version present thats normal ignore it - as stated just have at it with version 2

You can delete version 1. FTX Central V2 is the de facto version to use.

Also, as to the second part of your question, after installing ANY and ALL ORBX products you should always run the library installer last. If you aren't doing this V1 keeps popping up again - you are using an old installer.

It's FTX Central V2 all the way from here on in. In fact I think it actually does away with the need for the library installation as it automagically updates things for you. Explains why there have been no further downloadable updates since May. Simply carry out your install, open FTX Central V2 if it doesn't open itself, and follow the onscreen instructions.

Thanks guys that explains it all.  Don't know what happened to my post on the orbx forum seems to have disappeared.

I too am new to FTX Central V2 as I just opened it tonight out of curiosity. The icon shortcut has been on my computer now for awhile. My question is as follows (hope I can ask it on the unofficial forum)

-- Updates:

It states I need to update Redding (KRDD) to V1.10--does not make any notations where to download this update. Went to the Orbx website support section, could not find Redding update listed in the NA airports section.. I purchased it through Flight Sim Store linked to the Orbx website.

My Question: Can I find V1.10 update on the website I purchased it through? If so, where is the update located? I could not find it via logging into "My Account" section at the Flight Sim Store.

It also states I need to update West Yellowstone (KWYS) to V1.15  and directs me to the Flight Sim Store and my FSS account. Unfortunately, I purchased KWYS via PC Aviator (another flightsim vendor). I suspect I will not be able to update this airport scenery since it was purchased via another flightsim vendor.

Any helpful directions are always appreciated. Also, it was noted in an earlier post that FTX Central V1 could be deleted. How does one delete that or is it even necessary to do so??

Thanks

Raymie

Updates are usually directly from the vendor, so yes, you will need to access your PC Aviator account to get the updated files.

No it is not necessary to delete FTX Central V1, but it is a very good idea to do so. Installing V2 should remove any desktop shortcut to V1 automatically. It doesn't remove Central V1 but it means its no longer accessible.

To physically remove it go to the ORBX\Scripts\FTXCentral\FTXCentral.exe in your sim folder and delete the .exe. Thats it.

The newer Central V2 is deliberately placed in the AppData\Local\ORBX\FTX Central  folder of the hard drive to allow access to new file locations for current P3D versions, but it works equally well for FSX placed there.

Last night I had to reinstall Global, to which I got an error when it opened V1.  I ignored it, finished the install and then immediately went ahead and installed the latest lib, which in turn, automatically installed V2.  From that point on, anything that gets installed, as Richard pointed out, just ignore the V1 appearing and concentrate on working with V2.  The only caution I provide is that when you get notified of a new library, don't let V2 download and install it because that still appears to be broken.  Just go to ORBX support page and download and install the library manually.

I downloaded version 1.10 of KRDD (Redding). I currently have version 1.0 installed.

--Do I now just go ahead and run the installer for v. 1.10?? Will it simply "overwrite" the older version or do I have to manually uninstall anything first? I suspect all I need to do is run the updated installer, but want to make sure that is correct. The readme for version 1.10 did not mention anything about this.

--This is new to me for in the past all I had to do is go to Orbx website, down load the updates and run the installer. The program took care of the rest.

Thanks for our help as it is greatly appreciated.

Correct Raymie. just run the patch, no need to unsintall anything.

Then after that run the FTX File Libraries AGAIN (the installer predates the latest file libraries by a considerable while).

FTX Central V2 will then pop up, confirm installation of the patched KRDD and you're done.

Thanks for your noted help! I suspected that but wanted to get confirmation before installation of update.

The only way to get these updates now is to get a "cross-grade" license, which allows access to a download at the FlightSimStore.  There are some hoops to jump through and a small fee because the account entries must be made by hand.  Information and the link to the purchase page is at:
