4K 28" Asus PB287Q or samsung s34e790c 34" 21:9

Recommended Posts

Hi  all,

I currently have 2x 23" monitors (1920x1080p) side by side.

I'm looking for a monitor setup for:

- Stock trading

- Flying the PMDG 777 in FSX

Which would be better?

1 - Asus PB287Q (TN panel) 28" 4K in the center, with the 23" monitors at the sides, or:

2 - Samsung 34" S34E790C  21:9 ultra-wide screen.

system specs:

i7 4670k @ stock speeds

GTX 770, 2GB VRAM

16GB DDR 3

Most of my PC usage is web browsing & reading articles, and I sometimes get a headache after a while - possibly from the low ppi or slow refresh rate of my current monitors, so would 4K help?

Any suggestions or experience with the above monitors would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I'm actually considering a similar monitor uprade myself, however my major concern would be the loss of frame rates with the increased resolution, even with an I7 4470k @ 4.5Ghz and a GTX 980. I really think you'd need to consider a GC upgrade if you want to run those 3 monitors in tandem, even if you're not using Nvidia Surround. There's a lot of variables though, so its hard to say for sure. If you play other games that really need around 60 fps I'd imagine you system would struggle with graphical settings at high or above.

You might be better off with a 24" monitor with a 144Mhz refresh rate, that should sort your headaches out and they're pretty cheap compared to your other options. I also think 28 inches is a bit small for a 4k monitor, you'd really need a 32" screen or preferably above to be able to appreciate the increased resolution without having to squint! Just my two cents!

If your room is dark and you enjoy dead pixals. it's great. Other than that. garbage. Heck, I can't find anything good about it.

I have this one:

My PC monitor is the Asus PB278q. The younger sibling that is 1440p (2k). I love it for whatever it's worth to you.

Way to cause a serious case of tech envy. That screen is a monster. Do run the monitors off two discrete graphic cards? I also assume TrackIR is essential with a 55" screen. Have you ever had a triple monitor setup that you could compare it to? I can't decide to go with three 24" in Nvidia Surround or one 30" to 34" centre monitor with the two 24" monitors displaying instruments, maps, etc.

Sorry about all the questions BTW, I'm pretty much a newbie and I have yet to find a setup that's suitably immersive. i have TrackIR, but even with that it's hard to feel immersed with a 24" 16:9 monitor as my VC.

Geeze, first world problems, right?
