Two images...one from FSX, the other from P3D

Recommended Posts

So, two days ago I decided to give P3D another try.  I had tried 2.2 and then 2.3 and was not happy with either.  Now we're up to 2.5.

I've always felt that haze effects in FSX were way overdone.  Here are two images.  Both are running the same sky texture, same weather and similar clouds.  They're both taken over KSTS Sonoma County, near the same location at about the same time of day, looking backward at Mt. Helena.  The first is from FSX.

This one is from P3D.

There's a lot to see when you compare them.  Here's as mini-album where you can switch back and forth.

This is just food for thought.  P3D looks similar in comparison most of the places I've been to over the last 2 days.  I've been revisiting a number of my old airports and they all look like this.

So, food for thought...just for people to see a comparison. I am keeping FSX because of some addons but I do plan on keeping P3D this time.  I do like the way it looks and it performs well on my rig.  I may post some more comparisons later.

EDIT:  Note...FSX is DX9.

Hi, Gregg,

I love the view outside the window with P3D. But, can't stand being outside the aircraft. Totally removed P3D until the exterior shots have been cleaned up a LOT.

My FSX is tuned to my liking and for the first time in over 30 years of simming (professionally as well as for a great hobby). Only in the past year has FSX, using DX10 (finally) made me satisfied.

P3D did, until the external view became an eye sore.

Both of the following shots are FSX:

There is no comparison of FSX with P3D taking external screenshots. FSX has it hands down for now.

But, the internal looking out.....a whole different picture!

I noticed that too.  While the AA of and on the inside is (finally) excellent, the outside of the airplane still has jaggies.  Odd.  Still, doesn't seem to impact the scenery.

With all the confidence mustered up, there is no doubt that P3D will be an external view competitor as time goes by. There is an outstanding group working on the program. They have sure thrown some great stones at the product.

I can't wait to see the improvements as time goes by. And, getting Nvidia to truly pay attention to P3D as a serious product to support.

Until then, my copy is gathering dust. There hasn't been any settings that I have come across that fixes the externals to date. Close, but no cigar.

But, what a great day it will be when P3D comes together!

FSX has brought many years of enjoyment, and even more in the past year alone. Using Steve's DX10 fixer and paying attention to the cfg fixer-uppers, it is certainly meeting expections for now.

I spent the day tuning P3D some more.  The lighting in P3D is astonishingly good.  Still, I haven't been able to get the jaggies cleared up the way I have them in FSX.  Someday.

The only way to clear up outside views of aircraft jaggies in P3D is with the Nvidia Inspector. That's what I do and it works great. There are numerous posts on settings around the forums. You have to try them out until you find the best one for your personal rig. I found Brenden Quinn's YouTube videos, especially part 2, very useful.
