Removing flatten default airport FS9

Recommended Posts

Hello,I installed a mesh/photoscenery and I'd like to remove a default airport. Can I exclude flatten or do I need to edit the FL* files? And what tool/method do I use. I'm not much of a coder...:-hmmmMany thanks in advance!Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://fool.exler.ru/sm/fly2.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. To go down, pull the stick back harder"

I understand that I need LWMViewer to disassemble the FL file? But is there a tutorial or explanation somewhere. I searched this forum and it came up with some links to flightsimmers.net but those likns aren't working anymore. What I would like to do is to remove the flatten from Stehekin State airport in the rendition of Pacific NW photo scenery from MegaScenery. And to enhance the airport in par with holiday picture's I have from the airport.I hope someone can help a bit further.Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://fool.exler.ru/sm/fly2.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. Hello Rob,Do you mean for a FS 9 airport, or a FS X airport - the necessary techniques are different. If it is FS 9, then you should be able to create a new flatten that overrides the default. There are various tools for doing this - Steve Greenwood's utilities are commonly used. If you search this forum, you will find recent mention of them with relevant links. For FS X, the method of removing flattens is rather different, and not many people yet master that. I shall be providing a document concerning this and all other aspects of the new FS X vector scenery in a week or two, but it will require a greater effort for most to understand.Best regards.Luis

Hi Luis,Thank you. However it's for a FS9 airport and I want to get rid of the default flatten to make the runway sloped as it is in real life and available in the mesh. The photo scenery gives enough clues to make the strip visual. So I want to get rid of the flatten (editing/excluding FL files and get rid of the runway (modifying with AFCAD).But the excluding/editing of FL files is what's bugging me.:(I know Holger made some referrals to another posts or tutorials but these do not work anymore...Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://fool.exler.ru/sm/fly2.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. Hi Rob, If there is no another solution (that to modify the original FL fs file), you can use Scenery Builder by Luis sa :http://www.ptsim.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=18you can "oppen" the original FL.bgl file : in a new project, option append / LWM bglthen, find your polygon , delete it and save the project.compile the bgl and that's done... but it's still annoying to modifiy original files.hope this helps, best regards pascalhttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/p.dumat/htm/menu.htm

Hi Pascal,Thank you for the advice. However I ran into a problem:-I installed SBuilder. -Made a new project. -I appended FL915140.bgl (after making a backup copy)-I deleted the polygon at Stehekin State -Saved the project-Pressed compile but I got a greyed out screen with no options than to start FS after compilation. I ran compile but nothing happened. So what am I doing wrong. sorry for so much newby questions..Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://fool.exler.ru/sm/fly2.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. re,1) have you install scasm ? (see scenery builder documentation) :"You need to obtain the SCASM Scenery Compiler by Manfred Moldenhauer and place the file scasm.exe in the "Tools" subfolder of Scenery Builder. SCASM is not distributed with this package and can be obtained at:www.scasm.deNote that version 2.96 or higher is required"2) and do not forget to select all the polygons with your mouse (they become "green hightlighted") before to press the compile button... ;-)good luck

Darn how stupid of me http://www.stud.tue.nl/~isis/nieuw/leden/images/9shame.gifHowever I installed scasm. Did the whole thing. And indeed removed what I thought was the flatten polygon from aforementioned file (checked in LWMViewer). But the same straight plateau is still there (checked in the sim). I also removed the runway with AFCAD (backuped the file ofcourse) But no flat platform is still there. So what else to remove? What am I doing wrong?Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://fool.exler.ru/sm/fly2.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. To go down, pull the stick back harder"

There are two things that springs to mind:First, go to your airport in FS and take a note of the geographic position. Shut down FS, open SBuilder and check that you really are at your airport by the coordinates. Have missed myself in this discipline as many flattens are quite like another, especially for just one strip of rwy.Another method if you got FSUIPC: Start FS and go to your airport. Then minimize FS and open LWM Viewer...then choose "Center on plane". You will get a list of all the files related to that area. Then you can open the appropiate AP (airport) file, then center on your airport, then look at the flatten. In the list you will also find AB...files; they are the ones that makes the grass strips on airports. Nice to know, as the grass strip often is a tad too long :-)The other thing...if you have a scenery in your library with higher priority than default scenery and including your airport, there might be a flatten file there that overrides the default one.Cheers,A.Thomsen

Okay I checked carefully and I'm indeed on the right airport and deleted the right flatten polygon (via FL915140.bgl). I also deleted the polygon in AB915140.bgl at the airport. I compiled the stuff and put the stuff back but no luck. Then I checked for other overriding addons in LWMViewer. So I deactivated UT CAN and USA and Georender 4 which seem to be in the area according to LMWViewer. But again no luck :( So I'm still enthusiastic but dunno what to do and I feel a little bit ashamed to turn to you guys each time, but any help would be welcome. Many thanks, it's much appreciated!!Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://fool.exler.ru/sm/fly2.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. Hi Rob,do a Windows search for "FL915140" on your system; perhaps there are other copies, edited for other flattens, floating around in active folders.Cheers, HolgerP.S.: what happened to your CAB5 add-on project?

Hi Holger,Thanks for the tip. I'm conductng a search right now :) But not with satisfying results:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159548.jpgCAB5 is still in the works. Have been very busy with real life jobs, redecorating the house etc. I'm working on CAB5 (soon out) and on 6S9 (also a bit of redecorating...;)Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://fool.exler.ru/sm/fly2.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. Hi Rob,I assume that the version in NamwScenery is your edited version and not the original? Can we see a screenshot of the issue? Maybe it's something else that's interfering.Cheers, Holger

hello eveybody,Rob, I think Holger and Loke are right, first, check this :"The other thing...if you have a scenery in your library with higher priority than default scenery and including your airport, there might be a flatten file there that overrides the default one."I just made a rapid test with FL915140.bgl to delete the flatten of 6s9... it works ok with default FS9 ( see the sloped runway below) :http://pascal.dumat.free.fr/photos/6s9.jpgsecond, as Holger suggests there is still a little flatten interfering (with the apron surface) : you can delete it (runway too) with Afcad by Lee Swordy... so, you just keep identity Airport in Afcad and AB grass poly to suppress autogen.best regards , pascalhttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/p.dumat/htm/menu.htm
