  1. Thanks, Jim, for the background. Your point is well taken, Tom. I did check the site for malware on access and there was none, so didn't see a risk unless a button was pressed on the site. But in general it is buyer beware, and a warning to every suspicious site would swamp the forums. I have reported the site to MS via multiple avenues.
  2. Ya, I was referring to the specific web site, the phone scam is a different kettle of fish. I thought this of interest to simmers because searches for errors 1603 and 1722, which often occur on FSX installation, may lead to this site
  3. A site at http://nwaha.org/ has attempted to post comments on my blog. It looks like a Windows support site, but it's very suspicious, encouraging the user to download "fixes" to Windows problems, which are actually executables. Whois reports the owner as a proxy, so whoever runs it is hiding. There is no contact info on the site. Recommend not using this site.
  4. Now there's an easier way, a version of Vic+ (V8) for PNW specifically.
  5. Thanks for the tip. I had searched the forum here, but not selected the right scope pull-down. Problem fixed now, thanks again.Specifically, I:1. In Windows 7, click the Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list.User Access Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.2. Expand the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}3. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.4. Change the value to PartMgr only, deleting "SAFEBOOT", and then click OK. (mine said SAFEBOOT on one line and partmgr on the next, just remove one line leaving PartMgr as the value)5. Close Registry Editor, and then try to use the activation wizard.
  6. So I decided to purchase a new copy of FSX and Acceleration to run on a Win7 (SP1) laptop to better support addon scenery users. The FSX installation and activation went ok, but when I installed Acceleration and ran FSX an error dialog came up, "Unexpected error. ERROR CODE: 1-80004005", with a link to kb article. The article was uninformative as it said to try the activation phone number presented during activation. Which was not presented. A Google search for the error uncovered a number of threads on the topic on various MS forums, none of which proposed a solution other than reinstalling and seemed to leave the issue unresolved. I tried reinstalling and it failed. Now I know many users have suffered through the pointless foolishness (which only impedes legit users and doesn't slow down the thieves for a second) that is online activation. Anyone found a solution for this particular issue?Jon
  7. Note that small boat traffic can be turned off in the Victoria+ configurator. Jon
  8. I did get notification this time, thanks for fixing that up! Thanks again for your help ...
  9. Merci, David. I idly checked the box at one point, and had forgotten I had done so! That shot was from Van+ V3! Lovely, isn't it? ;) Do you have time to be a beta tester?Oddly, I didn't get email notification of your reply, although I have the option checked.Jon
  10. My computer went into the shop for a cooling upgrade (my Q6600 core0 was running at 93C) and a quicky overclocking. Now it runs at 50C when stressed. But when I run FSX I get a brief flash (from a fraction of second to several seconds) of blue texture on autogen, ground textures, default and custom buildings, etc. As I pan around, the textures often often flash blue again as they come back into view. This blue texture has a "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" logo on it.Further, certain textures don't load at all on some objects, and I get either transparency or a white texture.I've reverted the O/C back to below where I started, and this still occurs. So is this a hardware (graphics card/RAM) problem (in which case I'll mosey to the hardware forum) or something with FSX that has got corrupted?Jon
  11. Michael, I did find it best to watch with the room lights out, so I agree it's a bit dark. Adds to the immersion though if you watch it in the dark :( ... but even with the lights on it was not bad for me.
  12. Van+ and Vic+ add significant features, including a number of detailed airports, custom buildings and bridges, effects, etc. not included in FTX PNW. Jonathan Gabbert has been working on CYVR.
  13. You will need to uninstall Vancouver+ in PNW for now. We will release a compatible version (free to existing Van+ users) in the next little while. More info on my blog.Jon
  14. Very kind of you, glad you're enjoying the area ...Jon
  15. In general true, but not exactly in this case. The Vic+ files are not a new release, but the FSX version does have a slightly improved installer. Only useful if you had trouble installing. Otherwise ignore. Also on the FS9 version, it is identical, but the library managers reset the download count to zero for some reason. In both cases the "New!" text on the download list was somewhat misleading. It's great to see the library managers still working hard to restore the library, much appreciated.Jon
