  1. Excellent, I'd love to be a part of the process to help narrow down the issue.
  2. Glad to see someone else is experiencing this issue still. I posted another thread yesterday of a similar situation that resulted in an OOM when the sim was running for a much longer period with the WX radar on vs running a couple hours with the WX radar off. In both situations I loaded an ILS approach early on in the flight.

    OOM at Cruise

Hello, I have some early findings of a potential memory issue in the 777 since the update (running version 1.10.6492). I am well-versed in what causes OOMS, how to prevent them, etc, and have never seen my sim OOM under these circumstances. I have 2 scenarios: Scenario #1 ActiveSkyNext active TrackIR active FS2Crew active Departed OTHH (using Taxi2Gate scenery that I downsized textures in to reduce memory consumption) to SBGR (TropicalSim 2015 version) in the 777-200LR ILSY09R programmed for SBGR during preflight Reached cruise of 32000 ft WX Radar ON for the majority of cruise Cruised for approximately 9 hours Out of memory error/crash at cruise over the Atlantic Ocean after not switching views since the initial climb Only active scenery areas are T2G OTHH, Tropical Sim SBGR, all base scenery/cities, Ultimate Terrain, AES, FTX Vector, and FTX Global I did not want to lose the flight, so I decided to refly with time acceleration (also to see if the OOM would happen again) Scenario #2 ActiveSkyNext active TrackIR active FS2Crew active Departed OTHH (using Taxi2Gate scenery that I downsized textures in to reduce memory consumption) to SBGR (TropicalSim 2015 version) in the 777-200LR ILSY09R programmed for SBGR during preflight Reached cruise of 32000 ft WX Radar OFF for cruise Cruised for approximately 2 hours using 8X max time accceleration No OOM error or warning, even after landing and switching views Only active scenery areas are T2G OTHH, Tropical Sim SBGR, all base scenery/cities, Ultimate Terrain, AES, FTX Vector, and FTX Global The two biggest changes between the two flights are the usage of weather radar and the time spent at cruise. I will most likely continue investigating the issue as I would like to of course track down if the issue is 777 related or not. I'd appreciate if others would post as well if they have had a similar experience.
  4. Thanks for this post, Robert. I really don't understand the NGX and FS9 737 example to be honest, though. Those were technologically entirely different developments from what I understand, whereas the 777 for P3D is mostly just a re-license. That's where the disconnect is for me and probably others. At any rate, I do think your P3D pricing is starting to miss the mark for one of Prepar3D's purposes though: education. Academic products for students normally come at a discount or in a price range that students can afford, and I think you guys missed the mark here on that. I really appreciate your products, but they're really not a price point that is justified for me anymore.
  5. I agree. The most disappointing part for me is not the price itself, but the fact that everyone is getting the same intro price. It's like the money we paid for the FSX version that helped fund the P3D version doesn't even matter.
  6. Thank you so much for the update, Rob. Also very sorry to hear about your surgery. I am wishing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!
  7. I looked at your specs, and you have a K-series Intel processor, which means it overclocks easily. You should put a good liquid cooler on it, like maybe a Corsair H80, and overclock it to 4Ghz+. I think that will make a bigger difference than a new video card. I do have the GTX760 myself, and it runs very well. The main thing you need a video card for in FSX is antialiasing (which is what gets rid of jagged lines in case you don't know), and it does a great job with that on my system. You do have to understand, though, that a new video card will most likely not fix any crash issues in FSX; that program is just horribly buggy, and there's no way around it really. Even with a great processor and video card, you probably won't see 30FPS on the ground at airports like FSDreamTeam's KLAX, but you will see smooth performance, which is what matters most.
  8. I completely agree with this. I would've much rather seen a simple "We have a problem and can't give you release information until next week" instead of nothing after being told we'd have information by the end of the week. Just my 2 cents...
  9. Sorry for taking so long to get back. I haven't had a chance to check, but I've heard form other's it's better. I loaded up at FSDT KLAX with the Airbus X Extended and had 25-30 fps in all views on nearly maxed out settings. Also did a flight from KORD to KMCO, and I took a few shots. Enjoy! Also did a quick test with clouds the day before, and got this great shot of the difference volumetric clouds make.
  10. Alright, reporting back after a long day of settings things up. I have successfully installed P3Dv2 with the Airbus X Extended, FTX Global, ActiveSky 2012, TrackIR, and Taxi2Gate KMCO. Here's what I've noticed so far: Performance is much more consistent, and overall feels smoother. FPS is less related to smoothness, so be aware of that when people give FPS values. Shadows, reflections, and volumetric clouds/fog really do make a difference. Appears to be a much more realistic overcast. Shadows do kill GPU performance. They alone accounted for about 30% of GPU use when on the Low setting. KMCO is backwards compatible, so I assume most all sceneries are as well. Graphics card load is considerably higher. Anti aliasing will take some tweaking to get right; LM has changed the settings on it, and I don't have the most powerful video card. I will probably upgrade my graphics card shortly, but overall the sim is smoother and better looking than FSX.
  11. I am, and I should have some impressions very late tonight with it.
  12. I have downloaded P3D V2 myself, but I won't be able to post impressions or shots until late tonight as I am on a plane to Burbank to see Jay Leno this afternoon ^_^. I would like to say though that I don't understand why people are jumping immediately to conclusions that it doesn't look as good or perform as well from their first flight. I guarantee not a single one of you jumped into FSX and had a fantastic looking sim with good performance on your first try. It will certainly take some tweaking of all the new settings, and even installing some addons that can tend to improve performance like REX. Many of the shots people post of FSX also use enhancers like SweetFX, ENBSeries, or Shade to improve contrast and other graphical items. This sim is also very different in performance, relying more on the GPU than FSX, which for some people, is the weakest part of the build since FSX doesn't make good use of it. So, that being said, I will take some time to install a couple addons and mess around with the settings before posting any screenshots or impressions. If I don't like it, I'll uninstall it and request a refund, but I'll make sure I actually know the capability of the sim before jumping to any conclusions. [/rant]
  13. I would definitely not wait to buy if you're concerned about bugs. There are certainly no show-stoppers or anything close in the current version. The only thing I notice is a couple of the nuances with panel states, which are more like little annoyances than things that impair the operation. Like Kyle already mentioned, if you are getting worse frames with the NGX, it is highly likely that is because of how your own system is configured. I'm not sure why some people think there will be some magic change that fixes the performance; from what I saw in the poll, the majority of people get the same or better frames, and user configuration is a huge factor in that.
