  1. A question for those who have MSFS (MS store version) installed on more than one machine, using a single MS/Xbox account: it's mentioned above that the settings transfer between the PCs. What if I don't want this? Example: running on a higher-end desktop and a lower-end laptop (still meeting minimum requirements), I'd want to run the two with different settings, to manage performance. Does this mean I'd need to redo all my settings every time I'd move from one machine to the other, or is it possible to maintain two different sets of settings, one on each machine?
  2. @Tinribs Thanks; you're right, updating Windows, Store, Xbox and any other apps is the first thing to do at any sign of trouble with MSFS, and if that doesn't fix it I run repairs on all of them. But this issue goes beyond that.
  3. @JYW Thanks for the hints Bill, I don’t remember if I tried the gaming services repair tool but I’ll give it a go next time. Getting Windows to forget the accounts sounds worth trying also.
  4. I’ve been wrestling with what sounds like the same problem for the last couple of months and been through all the usual troubleshooting steps without success. For me, the problem seems to be related to the Xbox app and Gaming Services setup. My fix is to uninstall and reinstall the Xbox app, then launch MSFS from inside the Xbox app (the last part may be unnecessary). However, the problem returns whenever the PC is shut down, so now I put it to sleep rather than shutting down daily. Roll on MSFS 2024 when I’ll buy on Steam and not have to deal any longer with this shambolic Microsoft delivery system. Lesson learned.
  5. There was a comment on their Facebook suggesting that they considered the Marketplace to be too slow to set this up, and might not allow the deal anyway, so it’s offered on the developer’s own site. I had no trouble with the process.

  7. I am having the same issues that others are obviously having, unable to copy the .DLL files into the Store version Flight Simulator folder in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. I've spent the last couple of hours wrestling with permissions and ownership etc, I can now get into the folder but I can't copy anything into it. I've seen suggestions that some versions of Windows (I have W10 Home) just don't allow it, in which case, this mod is going to be inacccessible to a good number of us. Can anyone shed any light on this?
  8. Anticipating the release of the Vulcan, I picked up the payware IM Scenery EGXP Scampton during the Black Friday sales and I'm very happy I did. There are decent freeware Vulcan bases around, as Paul K says above, but such a good model deserves a high quality home!
  9. I think Jeff has chosen his words very carefully! 😱
  10. This is a great flight plan Bry but I'm sorry I'm not going to be able to make it - cricket final this time. As I won't be on, here are a few notes on the approach to Courchevel: Approach the waypoint before the airport at 7,000ft and in a C172, one notch of flaps and 70 knots. Keep as close as you can to the hillside on your left before turning onto the runway centreline. Descend towards the aiming point which is the middle of the grass bank below the runway. Stiil one notch of flaps and 70 knots in a C172 - you are supposed to be above normal approach speed. The slope of the runway makes it look as though you're too high - don't be tempted to descend too much otherwise it's game over. Flare with nosewheel high due to the slope. Oh, and there's no goaround, just a decision where exactly you want to hit the mountain 🤣 Sorry I won't be there to witness the carnage! 😧 Click here for a reminder what happens if you land too late!
  11. Sounds like you're going through what I went through last night. The good news is the fix was easy - once I found it in the AVSIM forums. I needed to install the "Xbox app" from the Microsoft store. There are other apps with "Xbox" in their name, but the one you want is just called "Xbox app". Once this was installed (and I ran it once), the update showed up under Microsoft Flight Simulator in the M$ store and it all went easily from there with the usual shenanigans of installing the content in the marketplace, etc. No, it doesn't make any sense. Yes, whoever at MS/Asobo was responsible for the update process should be relegated to emptying the office bins.
  12. Completely agree! I have a 9 year old son and he sometimes flies MSFS. I used to start him in the air flying something easy with all assists on and crash/damage off, and now he can take off himself and is starting to have a go at landing. Just keep it simple. Covering the very basics of flying (aileron/elevator controls, airspeed enough to stay in the air) is enough to start with. Then let them fly and see if they get bitten by the bug. Good luck!
  13. Yes, but I haven't flown there yet as I first need to figure out how to fly a DC-6 that far. I'm on short hops while I learn it. Expect Iceland to be putting in an appearance on a Saturday flight in the not distant future though.
  14. Hmmm, I'm sure there's something familiar-looking about this area... 😛
