  1. How is UT2's performance impact? I've been using Traffic360 in 2.2, and it will run with no problems, but the performance is horrible (70% fps loss at heavy airports). It's my understanding that this is because the models are killing performance, and that no traffic addon has models that will not kill P3D performance. Can anybody comment on this?
  2. I have both the 737 and 777, but there are a number of aircraft available that are at least equal, perhaps better. Many of them are also not the aeronautical equivalent of driving a city bus, and require more knowledge than running an FMS to fly. That's not to say that's how all PMDG pilots fly, but it's how many of the phanbois do, and it's frustrating when they ask when things like the VRS Superbug will be made more realistic (i.e. have a Honeywell FMS installed in it). The world of aviation is so much bigger than that; many pilots consider airline flying to be the absolute worst of it.
  3. There is a problem with the 340.52 driver in P3D v2. Disabling tessellation or rolling back are workarounds for this issue.
  4. Now that Steve's DX-10 fixer is no longer available for purchase, is there a route that we can follow to switch to DX-10? I have really been thinking of doing it lately, and was quite dismayed to see the fixer disappear.
  5. It is very unsafe to run a computer with Windows XP on it. Please do not even consider doing it, unless the system will never be used on the internet, or plugged into a network with other machines that are. Edit: Also, I can wholeheartedly recommend 7 64-bit.
  6. For use in P3Dv2, is a 4GB 770 or a 780 with 3GB a better option. Both have apparent upsides, but does anybody have experience with what works out better in actual usage?
  7. I believe Lockheed has advised that you will see better multimonitor performance by plugging one monitor into each GPU. From Beau at LM: If you have multiple monitors and multiple views, then you'll generally be better off driving a display from each video card than using SLI. If you have 2 cards and 1 monitor than it's worth giving SLI a shot. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=6352 Also, to enable SLI for P3D you need to use the AFR-FriendlyD3D trick Beau posted in the same thread. Bear in mind, this causes some breakage of the sim because Lockheed haven't coded the sim to buffer resources that persist from frame to frame in the separate threads GPU yet (they have said this is coming). In my sim I notice this only in special effects like vapor on the wing tips of fast moving jets.
  8. I'd consider a 4GB VRAM card to be a high VRAM card, though I know 6GB 780's are on the way. Has anybody tested what the impact of high cloud shadows settings on the GPU are? Do they require more VRAM? More core speed? More everything?
  9. I scoured the cover of PC Pilot, and nary a word about home entertainment appeared. There was quite a bit there about flight simulation on PC's. I think Avsim should use a program automatically ban any user who utters the words "home entertainment" or "EULA" in the same post as the words "P3D" or "Prepar3D". That horse has been flogged to a death worthy of Game of Thrones.
  10. I haven't seen your specific issue, but it's always good to make sure you're running the proper version. You are running version B5210, correct?
  11. I used this and saw about a 50% increase in frame rates using a GTX 590 on my single monitor. There were a few graphical anomalies, but as Beau explained in the Lockheed forum, certain effects persist frame to frame, so using Alternate Frame Rendering (the method of SLI this hack uses) breaks some things; some issues were to be expected. I'm very excited to hear how close full SLI support and optimization are, and to see what two high VRAM GPU's will be able to push through the sim.
  12. I don't have cloud shadows turned on, and I am experiencing absolutely no issues with ASN and heavy weather. I have increased the number of cloud layers and draw distance considerably. These are the best IMC conditions I've ever flown in. I've not tried heavy weather with cloud shadows enabled because I was experiencing such a performance drop with them enabled in light weather. The cloud shadows definitely seem to be killing a lot of people's performance, but hopefully something like sli or high amounts of VRAM can address this.
  13. Those are REALLY high cloud settings. I have a pretty high end system, and going from No Could Shadows-10k set's me back from 40 all the way to 10-15 when all my other settings are pretty high. Most other posts I've read where people are getting good performance are only using 10k. You just need to work your sliders, and temper your expectations.
