  1. Thanks everybody! Just got around to install FSX this afternoon, activated OK and all SPs installed OK. Reason I thought that the servers were down is because I read older threads here where people had to call in after MS shut the servers down, some time ago, and did not see any threads that they were back up. Now to read up on Nick N.'s FSX tweaks tonight, and work from there. I will want to use ADEX soon, so I will need to install the SDK, which I believe is on Disk 2 if I recall correctly.
  2. Hi there! Well, it's been 8 years in the waiting to install FSX, as now I have a machine that should run it very well, hopefully: i7-4790K 4.0Ghz Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark I 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM 1600Mhz 500GB Crucial SSD 2TB Western Digital HD EVGA 750W 80 Plus Gold PSU Nvidia GTX 970 4GB (with latest driver) Windows 7 Pro I got in my hands on a, new in plastic, FSX Deluxe. I know that MS does not have the activation servers up anymore and I will have to call 800-537-8324 to activate it. Two questions: Will there be a code of some sort displayed on the installation process that I have to tell Microsoft activation, or is it on the Certificate of Authenticity numbers on the package itself? Can I install the two updates (patches) for FSX before activation? Any other suggestions or other information will be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff
  3. Robin, I held off on installing the Registry Fix because I was not sure I would really need it. However, after I tried to install AITM and EditVoicepack, I think I need it now; AITM says there is a missing file somewhere and won't install and EditVoicepack does not show the default voicepack. However, if I install the registry tool now (after successfully installing other utilities like ADE and Traffic Tools) will that mess up those two programs' ability to see FS9?
  4. OK, I downloaded it and will install it later today or tomorrow! Couple of quick questions for ya: I know that the higher MIP Map setting in FS9 (like beyond 4) will make distant scenery look more defined, but causes a distortion type of shimmering in the middle 2/3 section of the display. What would it take to allow a higher MIP setting without the shimmering? Often, when looking outside the cockpit, the whole scenery slightly moves up and down a little in quick internals (especially right after the first sim loads), like a mini vertical earthquake. Sometimes it will smooth out in about 60 seconds or so. What causes that?
  5. Thanks for the replies. Where is the best place to obtain Nvidia Inspector?
  6. Hi There! Trying to get Nvidia Control Panel settings set to a "optimum setting" for best visual display purposes for FS9. I am not a guru on video settings at all, so I need guidance. I have listed my NCP setting options here to help you see what I "see". The Bold text will show what is the current setting. I just need suggested NCP settings to help FS9 "look the best". Because other than AA, I don't know what these NCP settings specifically affect FS9 - visually. FYI: Here is the key specs for the machine, it should handle anything that FS9 can throw out. i7-4790K 4.0Ghz Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark I 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM 1600Mhz Nvidia GTX 970 4GB (with latest driver) Nvidia Control Panel settings to choose from on MSFS 2004 selection: Anisotropic Filtering: Use Global Settings (Application Controlled) Off 2x 4x 8x 16x Antialiasing – FXAA: Use Global Settings (Off) On Antialiasing – Gamma Correction: Use Global Settings (On) Off Antialiasing – Mode: Use Global Settings (Application Controlled) Enhance The Application Setting Antialiasing – Setting: Use Global Settings Application Controlled (Note: This is fixed, and no options to choose from) Antialiasing – Transparency: Use Global Settings (Off) Multisample 2x 4x 8x Max Pre-Rendered Frames: Use Global Settings (use 3D Application) 1 2 3 4 Multi Frame Sampled AA (MFAA): Use Global Settings (Off) On Multi-Display/Mixed-GPU Acceleration: Use Global Set (multi Display Performance) Single Display Performance Compatibility Performance Multi Display Performance mode Shader Cache: Use Global Settings (On) Off Texture Filtering – Anisotropic Sample Optimization: Off On Texture Filtering – Negative LOD Bias: Clasp Allow Texture Filtering – Quality: Use Global setting (Quality) High Quality Quality Performance High Performance Texture Filtering – Trilinear Optimization: Use Global Setting (off) On Threaded Optimization: Use Global Setting (Auto) Off On Triple Buffering: Use Global Setting (off) On Vertical Sync: Use Global Setting (Use 3D Application) Off On Adaptive Adaptive (Half Refresh Rate) Virtual Reality Pre-rendered Frames: Use Global Settings (1) Use App 3D Application Settings 1 2 3 4 Any help will be appreciated!! 7. Thanks everybody! I will install the patch for sure. I will make sure to set everything back to Default settings before installing the patch, just in case it needs to be all default before applying the patch. Nick mentioned in the tweak about saving a copy of the current .cfg as a backup somewhere, then deleting it and fire up the sim to start with a fresh .cfg. Then he calls for the changes in the Settings Menu as he lists them, and then close the Sim. After that make the listed changes to the new .cfg and then save it.
  8. Hi There! Probably going to see me a lot here and there in the next few weeks as I am getting FS9 up and running on my new big rig (unless I am able to locate the right threads before needing to post myself). Which, for this post, I can't find. I just got defaults on FS9 loaded. Just did a couple of default start ups at KSEA. Still have not installed FS9.1 patch yet. However, I was reviewing Nick's FS9 tweaks tonight and noticed that he has items listed on his which are simply not shown on my FS9.cfg. For example, under his tweak he shows [Display] Runway_Lights_Surface_Scalar.... That line and the other line items below it like VASI, Approach, Strobe - is not on my .cfg. ???? The whole file is only 11kb if that helps. I found the FS9.cfg location on WIN 7 at Users/CU/Appdata/Roaming/Microsoft/FS9 I installed FS9 outside of the program files on WIN 7 (as suggested by others). I just made a folder for FS9 to be placed and it installed just fine. So I can't see where there would be another FS9.cfg file somewhere else. Even checked. Very confused. Thanks, Jeff
  9. I only saw one for the Default C-172. Update: Found one for the default 737-400 and 747-400 and Beech Baron. That should do.
  10. Thanks Lowflyer! I guess there is no fix for the "stretched" 2D panels issue, huh?
  11. Jorn, I just got a new machine built to use for FSX and I see that you and I share the same CPU, MOBO, GPU and RAM. I am a "student level" person on this driver stuff and wished someone had responded to your question, cause I have the same question too. I have the same driver as you, but working to try to get FS9 looking good (just installed it last night) first then I will install FSX. I wonder if that driver will work good on FS9 but not on FSX, or vice versa? As I mentioned, I am a "student" at GPU and drivers at best. Right now I am just trying to figure out why my default C-172 on FS9 panel is stretched a bit horizontal. My ASUS 24 inch monitor is at 1920x1080, same for FS9 resolution, and all looks fairly well except for the panel, instuments look like horizontal ovals, but the VC panel looks ok. Have not tweeked anything else yet.
  12. Glynn, Would the 9.1 patch fixes affect any of my saved FS9 folders when I put them back in the main FS9 folder? I just don't want any conflicts between the items in saved folders under the 9.0 wjhen encountering the 9.1 patch. BTW, I installed FS9 on the machine tonight, all went well, and the FS2004no-cd patch worked ok. :Applause: Now I have to see why the C-172 panel looks "stretched". Instruments look like horizontal ovals at all FS9 resolution settings. All the other scenery looks normal, (AI, the Cessna, etc) I got an Asus 24 inch at 1920x1080 for regular pc work, but it seems even at that resolution setting in FS9 it still does not look right. Note: I am not an expert on VCs, and this is my first "landscape" monitor. Been used to the 4:3 ratios for too long.
  13. Thank you very much Robin! I just did not know how the 4gb patch would affect any other things, so was going to run it without it just to see if nobody responded here. To play it safe, I will do a full default install, then slowly move the saved folders that I have over into the FS9 main folder. Basically remove and replace. I also got the "no-cd" patch downloaded and will install that first before moving over files. I will install the additional programs you mentioned if I run into trouble. Hoping to have good reports in about 48 hours. Thanks! Jeff
  14. Hello there! I am installing FS9 to a new Win 7 Pro system this week (after my old WIN XP system went out). I saved my old FS9 folders on a Thumb drive before the old system went south. I have read Dillon’s topic on installing FS9 onto Win 7, and some other FS9/Win 7 related theads. Note: I have previously reinstalled FS9 about 3x with XP, but never with WIN 7. Here is my new system for refrence, and then my questions. i7-4790K 4.0Ghz Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark I 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM 1600Mhz 500GB Crucial SSD 2TB Western Digital HD (partitioned 50/50) EVGA 750W 80 Plus Gold PSU Nvidia GTX 970 4GB (with latest driver) I will install FS9 on the SSD in a separate folder away from my Program Files. My main question: Given this system specs, will I still need to install the “4GB Patch” that Dillon suggested, in order to make FS9 “Large Address Aware”? I have read where some users did not do that and FS9 still worked just fine. Second question: I never installed the 9.1 patch with my old XP system (which I ran for 10 years), so will I need to move over the FS9 saved folders (Modules, Gauges, Effects, Aircraft, Sound, etc) from that thumb drive, then install the 9.1 patch? Third question: I also had used a “No-CD patch” for the FS9 and saved that FS9.exe file along with the saved files, can I still use that saved FS9.exe after the initial install? I am sure I forgot a question or two to ask, but this is it so far. Quick note: Once I have FS9 up and running like it was before (with my SGA aircraft, AIA AI, and EZ-scenery), I will work to install FSX for the first time! Thanks, Jeff
