  1. Thank you very much for the kind words, it means a lot! The last few months have been somewhat rough indeed, but things are thankfully coming into place now. That's true, they really didn't do themselves any favours when assigning bugs and requests to a specific Sim Update or a certain year, and then constantly shifting their release date, quite often after they were due. There are still some things initially planned for late 2021 that are yet to come. They could be more conservative while continuing to engage the community in the development though. For example, the Active Development slide was by far the most informative one yet relatively safe when it comes to delivering their promises, and the Community Triage section was extremely helpful for anyone not actively reading the official forums, yet was completely abandoned. Agreed with this. Even though they've been rather quiet lately, it really helps that MSFS is just in a very good overall place right now. Their generosity with the free content and Working Title updates is astonishing and inspires confidence in the future of the project, making it easier to overlook some of the long-standing issues.
  2. Besides the fact that the development blog updates are now posted extremely late in my time zone (between 2:00 and 4:00 AM), the last few months I've been distracted with urgent matters that need my attention, and consequently I don't have nearly as much time to fly in MSFS or keep up with its news and community anymore. I'll also admit that these weekly updates do not interest me anymore, it's been over three months since the Development Roadmap and Feedback Snapshot were last updated, so there's not much in there for me. Until I got e-mails notifying me that I was paged in this thread I had forgotten that they exist even. 😄 Very likely yes. I couldn't imagine doing this on a phone, but then I find web browsing on the phone a chore myself so it might be easier for others. I really appreciate the effort from others to continue where I left off, and later I will be sending David a PM with some formatting tips that may help. With a couple of important steps it is not too difficult, just a little bit tedious especially when the post has lots of sections.
  3. NOVEMBER 24TH, 2022 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Posted by: Microsoft Flight Simulator Team Screenshot by EPPRglider81 (Forum) To all our virtual aviators in the United States, we here at Microsoft Flight Simulator wish you a very happy Thanksgiving! As many members of our team are US-based and are currently visiting family for the holiday long weekend, this week’s Development Update Blog will be abbreviated. We’ll be back with a full blog post again next week. We continue to carefully monitor your feedback to the 40th Anniversary Edition and Sim Update 11. We have an ongoing public beta test to directly address some of your comments and concerns, and we recently released a new beta build (1.29.30.0) with several bug fixes and improvements, mostly for the Airbus A310. Last Friday, we were delighted to host Jorg and Seb live on our Twitch channel to answer questions from the community and talk about the 2023 Roadmap for upcoming releases. If you missed the livestream, you can watch the archived video on YouTube here, or check out the written transcription here. Finally, earlier this week we experienced an issue that prevented players from completing new installations of Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC. This issue is now resolved, and installations are once again functioning normally. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as our support teams worked to get a fix in place. MSFS Team DEVELOPMENT ROADMAP Click here for the web-friendly version. COMMUNITY FLY-IN There are a few locations around the world that are must-visit locations on every avgeek’s bucket list: Oshkosh, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Kitty Hawk…and a tiny Dutch island in the Caribbean. Sint Maarten’s Maho Beach is famously located directly adjacent to Princess Juliana International Airport (TNCM), and the area is renowned among fans of aviation for being one of the best spots on the entire planet to watch landing jetliners as they pass less than 100 feet (30m) above the beach. Due to Maho’s popularity with plane spotters, most restaurants and bars at the beach display the arrival information of incoming flights. This week’s fly-in will see our group complete a full-stop landing at Princess Juliana (recently updated in Microsoft Flight Simulator’s 40th Anniversary Edition) as we island hop across the eastern Caribbean. Our flight plan will also include a touch & go at Saba, home of the shortest commercial runway in the world! Event details here. All are welcome to participate! COMMUNITY VIDEO We always love showcasing “sim vs. reality” videos, and this one comes with a unique twist we don’t often see: the “reality” portion was filmed live from the flight deck of a real Airbus A320. Check out this beautiful side-by-side footage from YouTuber Capt A320 as he flies into Marseille, France in both real life and Microsoft Flight Simulator! 4. No, definitely not any time soon. The RX 7900 XTX is a competitor for the RTX 4080, and will probably lose to it in ray-tracing anyway. Reputable leakers say that Navi 31 is suffering from a design issue that does not allow it to reach the intended clock targets without massively increasing power consumption. In order to fix it, retaping the chip is needed (problem has been identified and already fixed for Navi 32). If they do so for the planned 3D V-Cache variant, then they will be able to compete with the RTX 4090, but that would be at least 6-9 months away.
  5. Understandable. Still, if it helps, I wouldn't worry about the RTX 4080 going out-of-stock because people are not flocking to buy it like they did with the RTX 4090. Make sure to check daily for a better deal, especially during the Black Friday period. In here they are dropping steadily but at a very slow pace. NVIDIA are tightly controlling supply in order to keep prices high for as long as possible, and it also doesn't help that gamers are refusing to buy RDNA 2 cards even though they are being discounted heavily and destroying Ampere equivalents in price/performance. I think it will bite NVIDIA in the end though. They did the same with Turing following a crypto crash, were forced to price their GPUs properly (with the Super refreshes) once AMD responded, and even after that, sales were lower than desired. We have to hope that there won't be another cryptomining boom in the foreseeable future and that Intel will become a good third competitor, and eventually prices should be corrected.
  6. When it comes to cooler designs, Gigabyte and Palit/Gainward seem to have done the best job this generation. While off-topic, if you're set on getting the RTX 4080, I would recommend waiting as long as possible for two reasons: The uncertain situation with the melting power adapter, and the blank screen which requires a manual firmware update to be fixed for cards that have been produced until now. With Lovelace we are still in early adopter territory. The RTX 4080 is priced like that in order to help move Ampere stock (and there is tons of it). Since it really should have been a $700 card, it can be expected that pricing will drop as more people buy GPUs during the holiday season, and especially with AMD's offerings competing at a much better price.
  7. Please vote here in the official forums: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/trees-are-still-hilariously-large/433239 Many threads have been merged into this request which covers oversized photogrammetry trees as well. In his GDC 2022 presentation, Lionel explains that flattening the photogrammetry trees can be problematic when it comes to LOD pop-in, so they prefer to simply draw the impostor trees on top of them. COMMUNITY FLY-IN Among airline pilots, few approaches are more legendary than the (in)famous checkerboard approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Nicknamed the “Kai Tak Heart Attack” due to the precision it demanded of pilots to make turns as low as 150 feet AGL over one of the most densely-populated areas of the planet, landing at Kai Tak was a true test of an aviator’s experience and skill. Although the real-world Kai Tak has been closed since 1998, this fan-favorite airport has recently returned to Microsoft Flight Simulator as part of the 40th Anniversary Edition update. Join us for our Fly-In Friday this week as we tour the Guangdong/Canton region of China with stops in Macau SAR, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and finally a full-stop landing at Kai Tak. Event details here. All are welcome to participate! COMMUNITY VIDEO Contrary to popular knowledge, Charles Lindbergh was not the first pilot to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. That distinction goes to the UK’s John Alcock and Arthur Brown, who completed the feat in a Vickers Vimy in 1919. Lindbergh was; however, the first aviator to cross the Atlantic while flying solo. When Lindbergh landed in Paris on May 21, 1927, he instantly became a global celebrity. His aircraft, the Ryan NYP “Spirit of St. Louis” is preserved for future generations to admire in the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. It is also now available for virtual aviators to fly in the 40th Anniversary Edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator. One of the newly-released missions is a historic re-creation of Lindbergh’s famous flight. Last weekend, Twitch streamer intheblueyonder livestreamed the entire journey from New York to Paris in the Spirit of St. Louis. He completed the journey in just over 31 hours of real time flight without any pauses or breaks (the actual historic flight for Lindbergh took 33.5 hours). 9. I was on vacation for the past week, thanks for posting and great job!
  10. I wouldn't hold my breath for Meteor Lake. According to newer rumours from reputable leakers, it will be a mainstream line-up and perhaps mobile-only (Intel have shared a die shot showing only 6 P-cores, which matches what the rumours said). The proper successor to Raptor Lake will be Arrow Lake in 2024, which means it will be competing with Granite Ridge.
  11. Didn't see that before, but I'm fairly sure it is one of those fake channels (there is one called "Testing Games" which is definitely fake for example). Despite being a very small channel, they have supposedly acquired a staggering amount of hardware the past month (13900K, 13700K, 13600K, 7950X, 7600X, RTX 4090, Arc A770, Arc A750) and managed to post footage with the RTX 4090 three days before the embargo. It is unlikely to be a legitimate one, so I would ignore these results.
  12. Although Raphael-X is almost certainly getting unveiled at CES 2023, I'm not aware of Intel releasing a newer line-up until 2024. If you mean the 13900KS, that will be something, but the power consumption and thermals will be even more intense. The best CPUs for MSFS right now are the 5800X3D (best average framerates) and the 13900K (best minimum framerates with good DDR5), but both are on platforms that do not have an upgrade path. The advice by turbomax is good, wait for AMD's 7000X3D series (by then AM5 motherboard and DDR5 prices will be even better), and your upgrade path will consist of Zen 5, Zen 5 with V-Cache and Zen 6 at least.
  13. To be fair, I did make a typo with the build number in the title of my thread. When I realised, it was too late and I couldn't edit it anymore. So many numbers!
  14. OCTOBER 20TH, 2022 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Posted by: Microsoft Flight Simulator Team Screenshot by ukaka5656 (Twitter) The dev team remains hard at work preparing for the release of the upcoming 40th Anniversary Edition which is scheduled to launch on November 11. A part of this includes bringing fixes and improvements to the ongoing Sim Update 11 beta. As a direct result from player feedback from last week’s first public test build, we released a new beta build (1.29.25.0) of Sim Update 11 to testers earlier today. Thank you to everyone who has participated in the Sim Update 11 beta and reported issues on the forums. The information, feedback and bug reports are incredibly valuable and have already helped us identify and resolve some issues in Sim Update 11. Thanks for your feedback, we are doing our best to address the most critical issues! We need your attention on two features that work differently now on SU_11. Localization process: New Localization Process Stricter control of the files present in a SimObject type AssetGroup: Documentation on this one will be made available today on DevSupport. General: Scenery Editor: We fixed the Asset selector that was closing immediately after opening. We fixed a crash that happened when using the same model for two vector placements. Visual Effects Editor: With ImGUI update, the nodegraph would display all kinds of metrics. We have removed them. Project Editor: Naming validation now also checks the name length. We cleaned and improved the flow of renaming an item. We no longer reset all creation fields when going “Back” between popups when creating a new package. Merged the two commands when renaming/creating an item that would replace an existing one (remove previous + add new commands). Cleaning a package no longer cleans current package regardless of given package name. We fixed a crash on closing the Project Editor. We fixed the fact that asset groups were not writing Config tag, and we added the config edition in the asset group inspector. Aircraft Editor: We added Helicopters parameters. We removed the unwanted sections from cfg on save (ie. we remove PISTON when changing engine type from piston to jet). Legacy fuel system is automatically displayed if there is a FUEL section and no FUEL_SYSTEM section => this prevents the user from losing data. We added “None” to icao_engine_type. SimConnect: On the NavData API, we added new fields to Ndb and Vor. WASM: We fixed a potential memory corruption issue due to storing a 64-bit value in a 32-bit slot of the linear memory. THIRD PARTY UPDATE As of 10/15, we have now approved 280 (+2) third parties into the in-sim marketplace and – so far 168 (+1) have released 1,508 products on PC (+11) and 1,218 on Xbox (+12). In total, 2,381 products (+32) have already been released in 3rd party stores and the in-sim marketplace. Beyond that, another 604 products (+3) from 3rd party developers are in production (313 announced, 291 unannounced). Mission Packs: 110 mission packs (+1) are either released or are in various stages of development. 106 mission packs (+0) have been released on the platform so far in various stores. 41 mission packs (+1) have been released in the in-sim marketplace. 0 mission packs (+0) beyond the released missions have been announced. 4 mission packs (+1) are not announced, but the dev let us know that they are in production. TWITCH UPDATE October 22 is recognized in Australia as “Wombat Day”, a day to celebrate conservation of these adorable marsupials and their natural habitat. Dating back to the first Wombat Day in 2005, the traditional way to celebrate is to eat chocolate (typically baked into a Wombat Cake or Wombat fudge) and wine gums, so be sure to prep appropriately! Accordingly, Community Fly-In Friday this week will take us back to the Land Down Under for a flight over the Australian Outback, culminating with our arrival at Uluru, one of Australia’s most distinctive natural landmarks. Event details here. All are welcome to participate! COMMUNITY VIDEO Scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson sparked a debate about realism in filmmaking (and specifically in Top Gun: Maverick) last week when he posted to Twitter saying that Maverick would not have survived ejecting from the Darkstar while flying at Mach 10.5. Over on YouTube, Scott Manley posted a video rebuttal to deGrasse Tyson, arguing that safe ejection at that speed could indeed be possible, using the simulation of the Darkstar in Microsoft Flight Simulator to help demonstrate his point. If you’re interested in learning more about the thermal and kinetic principles involved in an ejection at such a high speed, check out Scott’s video below! 15. The power consumption and efficiency are indeed Raptor Lake's major disadvantage, Raphael's being the rather incremental gains and poor prices/value (especially the AM5 motherboards). Have to say I'm disappointed with both releases. The upcoming Raphael-X/7000X3D seems like the only worthwhile gaming CPU line-up until Granite Ridge and Arrow Lake in 2024. The slide you linked to was already in the original post, which is what prompted me to comment on Raptor Lake having better minimum frame rates compared to the 5800X3D. Based on the comparisons between the 5800X3D and Raphael in the same slide, I'd say it's the DDR5 RAM making the difference, and with the 13900K sporting more cache and higher clocks, it will probably extend the advantage further. With that in mind, I'd say that the 5800X3D and 13900K with good DDR5 are rather equal, but both of their platforms are on a dead end it seems.
