  1. Is this possible in the Garmin 530 etc? I want to be able to plan out using just GPS fixes. Or should I use something like PlanG and export the data (convert to X-Plane if needed)?
  2. That is incorrect, and I have 30 years experience in digital video and non linear video editing systems as a principle software developer to back it up. For example if you ever watched NTSC television, you have been watching 29.97 FPS which is actually drawn at 59.94 Fields per second and then interleaved. Film is 24 fps, but it is frame doubled to add inter field motion. On a PC drawing faster than your montitor frequency gets nothing, and most (not all) of the time your 60Hz monitor is frame doubling and the video rendering is not being delivered at that frequency anyway. This is a simulation, what is important is not the video FPS, but how much power the CPU has to perform all its flight calculations, AI, ATC, Physics, Weather, addons, gages, etc. before handing off the geometry to the video card for GPU processing. I have not one but dual $1000 video cards, but it doesn't mean anything if the amout of texels (yes texels) and vertices handed off is not the bottle neck, but culling and all the other processing on the CPU becomes the bottle neck. Way back in 1980s I worked on a ray tracer for the Amiga before being hired by Adobe in the 90s and working on game engines wtih Intel after that. The CPU quickly became the bottleneck, today's GPU's outperform the CPU. Another limitation is the BUS, especially in the PC world, that is why major changes happen there. In a simulation, just like in real time video processing and real time rendering, requires a hefty CPU to handle what the GPU cannot do. Now people are passing Physics and other tasks to the GPU to try and offload some of the CPU requirements for the sim. So yes, 30 fps is fine so long as everything else is working. People look at FPS and are completely clueless as to what it means. And no, it does not have to render at the monitor frequency, in fact most times it doesn't, it simply doubles up on the frames just like NTSC used 2 fields of 60 fields per second interleaved and displayed at 30 (29.97) fps. I used to enjoy laughing at 3D gamers who would quote "Look man, I get 250 FPS" when they were using a 60hz or even 120hz monitor. Clearly they are clueless.
  3. Thanks everyone, I just bought it! Last version I have was the DVD of XP 9, so I purchased 10/11 and am happy with it.
  4. Thanks. So far the demo looks good, I have not used X-Plance since version 9.
  5. Does XP 11 support SID and STAR? If so, how well does it work with built in ATC? I am thinking of buying it, but it is unclear. If it does, I assume it is also possible to update the AIRAC? Which planes support entering SID, STAR and approaches in the FMS/FMC? Sorry for the questions, I did google it but could not find anything that also answered the ATC question.
  6. I think I may have entered my code for my 777 when I loaded the 737 into FSX and the dialog popped up (it was a new install/patch of the 737) asking me to activate it, that failed, and now the plane is not usable. I created a support ticket. I really wish we could do this through the Operations CEnter or something, its crazy and almost like a hack the way PMDG handles registrations (when a DLL is invoked from within FSX as opposed to a menu option that *gasp* the user could retry)! Anyone know what I can do to force it to ask me again, I do not think I ran out of retries. Thanks!
  7. ProATC X all the way for IFR, for VFR I too use the built in ATC. My second choice for IFR would be PFE 3 because I loved the old PFE. Anything not in development is avoided by me, most of it is so outdated it is almost useless to me. PS: Is there a way to ignore people? Potroh is annoyingly cluttering up the thread with garbage. Take it to PM please.
  8. Hi All, I own the 737NGX and the 777 PMDG licenses for FSX. I am considering switching over to P3D, and it looks like you need to open your wallet again to get these PMDG planes to work, is there a discount for current customers to purchase the P3D license version? Thanks
  9. I checked out RC4 at a friend's house. Not sure if it was a mistake on my part, but at the point in which I was going from enroute to my STAR, it sent me in circles for some reason then stopped responding. I tried it again later with the same setup, and this time it worked and let me fly my route in working just fine. One other funny thing I noticed is if you click the "Load APL" (I think thats what it says, I clicked it by mistake), there is no way to exit the file dialog without loading an APL (did not have one) or nuking RC4 in the task manager. No way to cancel. I will stick with PFE as much as I hate it, and try VoxATC.
  10. Hehe. Well lucky for me I never purchased ProATC/X
  11. I can name plenty of FSX addons that are not even worth a dime IMO. And not to defend the ProATC/X guy, but getting sick seems to be popular with FSX. I suppose it's because many are developed by amateur hobbyist programmers. Also trying to get help for programs that are still active, such as PFPX, is like pulling teeth. Questions are not answered in the official forums, I can (and did) get an answer here faster. Meanwhile someone like Volker goes out of his way to answer FSCommander questions.
  12. Same here, but I run NVidia. Intel i7-4770k @ 4.2Ghz MSI Z87 M/B GeForce GTX 780 4GB 32 gigs of G.Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR3-1866 RAM Samsung 840 EVO 240 gig SSD (FSX is on here) Corsair Water Cooler Windows 7/64
  13. Don't get your panties in a bunch, I did not say a single thing about this tool, I am just saying in general that I do not have any problems. Perhaps people just do not know how to setup their system, I do. I have Orbx, I also have a ton of addons, and I have no problems. I have nothing to prove to you, I did try the demo though, and it made things worse, so i removed it, simple as that. Again though, I was just asking why do people have such problems. I did not mention anything, good or bad, about the tool. So you can stop needlessly trying to defend it. The guides are good, what I am saying is that I think some people just do EVERY tweak, needed or not, and without knowing what it does. That is not good
  14. Why do people have problems in the first place? I have a ton of scenery, addons, and complex planes like the NGX. My system is very high end, and I hand tweaked it, I have never had any problems with stuttering or texture blur. I have a feeling that people just install various tweaks (such as Word Not Allowed's or NickN's guides) without knowing what it does, or even worse they run Bojote's Tweak tool which is very out dated for today's hardware. It's silly...
