  1. Thank you Ed. I found a post on a techo forum that explained how to link another drive so it behaves like a folder on the C drive, so I might do that. if so, I can move a whole lot of other stuff too. Giving the C: a lot more space and moving stuff to another SSD ought to speed things up quite a bit Cheers, Mike Kear, Windsor, NSW, Australia
  2. After installing P3D v4.1 I have a need to clear some space on my C drive. It's slowing down my computer and making it unusable for some applications, including flight sim. I've found lots of disk space on C occupied by unnecessary files that I'm deleting, but I've found a bunch of folders with about 40GB or so of files with names like Scene4.cab. They're in folders here: c:\program data\package cache\(C953A291-C0D5-414E-8211-778D5E53D73Ajv4.1.7.22841 Can I safely delete those? They look like temporary files to me. (And I admit I dont know if they are P3D files - they might well be from something else I've installed. ) Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia
  3. Thank you for your advice everyone. Like so many other parts of my life, I learn by my mistakes. It never occurred to me that there were two different quadrants, but of course it should have - i have been around long enough to have known. What I thought just might be a fairly simple thing has turned out to be an awful lot of learning. But i still think the destination is worth the journey so I'll keep going until i have my yoke, rudder pedals, and throttle quadrants as i originally envisaged. 4. Glynn, yes it's got a PS/2 plug on it. So i guess it's the one that came with the yoke not the separate additional quadrant. I bought a PS/2 - USB adapter but I suppose the power isnt getting to the quadrant because the little green LED doesnt come on. So here's an interesting question - I never got to mix too much with PS/2 devices apart from a mouse when they were the rage ... does the PS/2 standard have power? So if i get the right adapter, and power it into a powered USB hub is it going to power my quadrant? Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia.
  5. Hey!! What's the matter with Aussies?? You guys have something against us? We travel all over the world. Cheers Mike Kear WIndsor, NSW, Australia
  6. I am trying to use SPAD.neXt to control my Saitek Pro Flight Yoke and Pedals and Throttle quadrant. 2 weeks after buying the full licence it's still less than satisfactory for me. I have a support ticket in for a week now and no response. I can't start FSX with SPAD.neXt running. A warning box comes up saying do i want to run one of the SPAD.neXt components, and if i say yes, FSX crashes. If i say No, FSX will start but with no SPAD.neXt. Obviously other people have got theirs going ok, so it's not a big problem with the software - I've done something wrong installing it and setting it up or maybe I have something else conflicting but I can't find out what to do about it. Also, when I go to my throttle quadrant set up, the left lever goes in reverse - when I push it up, the throttle in FSX goes down. There's a way to change the behaviour in SPAD.neXt but it's greyed out in this case. Can anyone give me some help as to where i might have gone wrong getting it set up? I have windows10, running FSX from an external USB3 drive, FSX . Accelerator / SP2. Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia
  7. I have a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke, which comes with a throttle quadrant that connects to the yoke via a PS/2 plug into a PS/2 socket on the back of the yoke. I have bought a second throttle quadrant on ebay, which I figured was supposed to be able to connect to the yoke as well, but there's only one PS/2 socket on the yoke. How does the second quadrant connect to the yoke? Cheers Mike Kear WIndsor, NSW, Australia
  8. Bryan, congratulations on the birth of yet another program-child! I havent had the chance to install it yet - that's tomorrow, but it looks just amazing. What's the difference between the Captain's set and the other version? Is it just that the Captain's set includes RAAS? Because i already have that with my 737NGX version. I'm assuming the RAAS i already have is going to work with QOTSII - is that correct? Can you clarify please? Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia
  9. i have FSX and P3Dv4 on my machine - i'm in the process of migrating to P3D. in order to use Chaseplane on both, do I have to install it twice? Can i share the camera settings between them (if so how? ) or do i have to set it all up a second time? Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia.
  10. Jeez Bryan, I guess you dont have many days when you sit and wonder what you can do today. Your To-Do list must be HUGE. You have my admiration. I wish i Had the skills to help you. I'm in radio broadcasting - if you need help processing sound files at all give me a shout. Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia foggyhollow@bluegrass.org.au
  11. Thank you, Captain Kevin and Chock! I had exactly this problem, and I thought i was stymied when I turned off realistic autopilot engagement. I figured that would fix it, but to my dismay it didnt. Then I saw the suggestion here about the joystick terminals. So I turned off the disengagement with control movement and the problem went away. So that proved the joystick was the cause. Now i have to attack the joystick with some contact cleaner or maybe get a new one and I'm sweet!! Thanks again it was a very frustrating problem to have spent 30 minutes or more preparing a flight, only to have to abort about 10-15 minutes after takeoff. All that did was just test my vocabulary. Cheers Mike Kear, WIndsor, NSW, Australia
  12. PMDG have the right approach to announcing (or not) release dates. Once you name a day, you either release on that day and you're a good guy or you dont and you're not. But suppose between announcing a date and the release date you find another bug or problem in the product?? Do you release anyway, hoping no one will notice or delay release and then be a bad guy? Far too many software companies release anyway. PMDG have a far better attitude - I remember them saying "we'll release it when it's ready. Not before. It's ready when it's ready." And they resist the temptation to name a date before that time. It must be hard to resist the temptation because so many of us want the new product and we're getting excited about it. They must be tempted to tell us "yes it'll be about 3 weeks" or some such. But they dont. And i congratulate them for that. Release it when it's ready. It's ready when it's ready. Not before. 13. Thank you everyone. It's nice to have friendly voice in my torture at last. Bob, I'd have stayed with Windows 7 but it has to happen at some stage - eventually they're going to remove support for it, and I had some free time now to do the job so (stupidly and wrongly, it turns out) I figured now was the time to do it. I thought at first that it had upgraded cleanly and just as advertised. Nice!!! I spoke too soon. Then i went for a fly in my PMDG NGX and found that was broken. (hence this thread) Then so also was my Garmin 1000 therefore my Flight One Duke was broken. Then it was time to do some work and i found that my key application - my IIS Web server was broken. Without it (or a non-microsoft alternative) I can't work. I have about 200 applications on my workstation - most of them only used once in a while and I'm gradually learning that some of them open just fine but when you come to use some of the features they're broken. I guess those are features built with licensed libraries or something. Anyway, it took me 5 months to clean the installation of Windows 95 after I was a beta tester for that. And several months to get Windows 98 working ok, and the Win2000 server. My Windows 7 machines were new machines so they just worked ok. But this upgrade is going the same way as all the previous ones. Sigh. Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia.
  14. Thank you Kyle. I've done that. Just for anyone else's interest, Dont take it for granted that when Microsoft tells you all your personal and app files are left where they were, that's true, but notice they dont say the same thing about registry entries. Any program that relies on registry settings to work or validate or any other purpose will quite possibly be broken by installing Windows 10. And then dont expect anyone from Microsoft to help. So far I've spent FIVE days trying to get my Windows 10 working properly, and FSX is the LEAST of my problems. The applications I use in my professional web development life are in a shambles and I can't do any work. And I've been passed around from one person to another at Microsoft, few of whom will actually attempt to help me. Believe it or not there is NO ONE in Microsoft Australia you can talk to. You can only talk to people in the Phillippines who sound like they are speaking on a tin can and string from the moon. Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia (Very frustrated and ANGRY at Microsoft - once a great company, now a shambles.)
  15. I've upgraded my windows to Windows 10 Professional, and now my PMDG NGX is wanting an activation code. If i dont give it a code it likes, it tells me that I dont have a valid licence for my NGX. This concerns me greatly because I am scrupulous about only using valid software. Anyway, I figured it wanted the licence keys originally given to me when I bought the aircraft. But it says they're not valid. What do i do now? I have the PMDG NGX 8700 base package, the PMDG NGX 600 add-on, the two 777s, and the 4100 turboprop. I havent tried a 777 or a 4100 but I'm assuming that whatever's broken the first validation has also broken the second. Any one have any ideas what I do now? Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia.
