  1. Dear friends! The end of the year is traditionally rich in holidays. And as always we enter this cheery period with an armful of gifts. First and foremost, as we promised a couple of weeks ago, it's time to release the Sopwith Strutter 1 1/2! And we have a surprise for you. Not only will get the 2-seater version, we have also included a single-seat version as a special Christmas present! We hope you will like it. You will get your hands on it right after the client update on December 19th. This has been a long-awaited addition to the ROF collection of aircraft and it's finally ready to roll into your hangars. Please note that the Strutter will be released later for the Steam version, included in a new DLC package that is yet to be announced. Second, it is time for our Christmas & New Year sale in the ROF Store! Don't miss a chance to grab more WWI classic warbirds and get twice as any gifts for the same price. Our airplanes also make great gifts for your flight-simming friends! For two whole weeks, from December 19th till January 2nd you will be able to purchase ANY Rise of Flight product with a 50% discount! Everything (except the newly released Sopwith Strutter) goes at half-price or more: planes, weapon and field mods, personalization packs and maps are all on sale! Let the holidays begin early and check out our Store right now!
  2. The small LCD is a first generation tablet manufactured by motion computing. I run VAS FMC 2.1 on the tablet usually displaying the upper ECAM for multi engine aircraft. The fighter stick/throttle in the picture may be a bit confusing for some. Those controls are mounted using PVC pipe and can be installed or removed in a few minutes based on the aircraft I am flying.
  3. I had a feeling that you would come to that conclusion about the Just Flight DC-6. I am in love with vintage airliners as well. I got burned on the JF Connie, Comet and Viscount. After that, I would not even bite when they offered the Tri-Star for $8. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. These JF aircraft were created by Airplane Heaven.
  4. Name: Airport 2013! Category: FSX Scenery Date Added: 04 December 2013 - 10:03 PM Submitter: timmonst Short Description: None Provided I have visited the "Airport in the Sky" in my Cessna 150 (you can see the video of my landing on RW 22 in the link below). While it gives the appearance of a challenging airport, sitting on the top of a mountain, with drop offs on both ends, it is relatively easy to land at. One day I was flying the CaptainSim 737-200 around the LA area admiring Aerosoft's Los Angeles scenery when I decided what fun it would be to try to land at Catalina. I knew I needed to be way behind the power curve on approach and really drag the 737 in for a touchdown right on the threshold. If I could keep the excess energy to a minimum I just might have a chance of slowing the aircraft to a stop before going off the cliff at the end of the runway. I was on the brakes hard right at touchdown with the old school clam shell reverser deployed just as quickly. I almost made it! I laughed so hard after that landing that I decided to save the replay. A week or so later I decided to mash the clip up with one of my all time favorite movie series, Airport. And who better to attempt the landing then our beloved Joe Patroni. I hope you get a good laugh from this short sequence. Yes, there are all kinds of technical errors between the two clips (I know the plane is not a 707!), just look past those things, and enjoy the clip! 5. Thanks Pierre, I'm really happy with where I am at right now, the diagram reflects several changes made in recent months, most notably switching to Win-7 and an i7 processor. My rig has been evolving for over six years now so maintenance of the existing hardware has begun to play a larger role in consuming time and resources (for example my Desktop Aviator TPM had to be scrapped and the GoFlight MCP-Pro shipped back to the company for a firmware upgrade due to the Win7 upgrade). My wishlist would probably include a real FMS and a Boeing overhead panel. -Tim Pictures a little dated.
  6. Very impressive. IMHO This device will make it to market even if the designer can't raise the capital to manufacture the device himself.
  7. This was done up in Visio. I keep a copy posted on the back of my rig to keep me straight when I am working behind the curtain. Visio-FS SETUP DEC13.pdf
  8. Here are a couple of niche hardware producers that make very reasonably priced equipment for flight simulator: www.desktopaviator.com http://www.fsthrottles.com/ Probably best bang for your buck besides Saitek in an otherwise grossly overpriced hardware market.
  9. Name: Home Flight Simulator Category: Home Cockpit Videos Date Added: 04 December 2013 - 04:56 PM Submitter: timmonst Short Description: None Provided Update: This video is from Jan 2010. At that time I was working on my commercial pilot certificate. As of Jan 2012 I am a commercial pilot and flight instructor. If you are going to post that I should "just go out and get my pilot's license" you may want to check out some of my other 150 real world flying videos on YouTube. 10. What I like about Aerofly FS is that it looks great out of the box...zero tweaking. Every time I reinstall FSX I have to follow ten pages of step by step directions (a living document that I have created over many years) to get FSX tweaked to perfection. That includes a few dozen additional third party add-ons in order to achieve. I just added SweetFX the other day in order to achieve effects that appear to be built into Aerofly. My fingers are crossed that the developers will continue to move forward with enhancements to functionality.
  11. Aerofly has a long way to go before it can be considered a serious flight simulator. No problem...I'll wait. I accept it for what it is currently: super fun, eye candy flying. If I want to show off my sim to someone not familiar with the hobby I will load up Aerofly FS and let them have at it. If a fellow real world pilot comes by then i load up FSX to give them a taste of just how procedurally accurate the simulator is.
  12. When I need eye candy I go for my Aerofly FS. I purchased the Just Flight Duchess for my iPad and could not be happier. Gives me my sim fix when I am away from the big rig at home.
  13. My favorite sim for the Ipad & Iphone hands down, easily surpassed my old favorite Infinite Flight.
  14. I just did an upgrade on my rig to Win 7 and found out what you now already know. The Desktop Aviator TPM is not compatible with Win7. You may have noticed it has been completely removed from their line of products. I have switched over to Saitek's TPM. -Tim
