  1. Yeah, the lightning and thunder in Chewie's stream looked really good. It just looked good in general. Is that enough for me? Maybe?
  2. This is a pilot error, my friend. Also, this is supposed to be a relaxing hobby full of learning new stuff and self fulfillment. Relax.
  3. Maybe they've been making a Dash 8 behind the scenes and we'll all cry with happiness?
  4. I'm starting to wonder if I should crank up the failure rates when I fly my PMDG You know, this is a simulator after all (sorry if this joke is hackneyed at this point)
  5. Yeah... It's true. They're great, but the anxiety I have of getting everything perfect limits me from getting as much as I'd like out of it. I know I'm not gonna get fired or anything, but man I'm on edge when I think about flying when it's real interactions with trained people. The idea of non judgemental AI, if and when the tech fills out, makes it so I get just the right amount of nervous about getting things right.
  6. Well... I choose to believe I'm helping it learn. hahahahaha I'm enjoying the service so far, warts, niggles, and all. The dev Brian is insanely responsive.
  7. Yeah, Ive only just recently decided to give it a whirl for a month, but the taxi routing is *mostly* right. And when they're not, I've asked for confirmation and they get it right the second time, even apologize! Its pretty cool.
  8. Thanks to everyone for the responses. What a community we have here! It's crazy how long I've been flight simming (since I was a tiny kid and FS1 came out!) and how quickly I've recently learned how bad I am at it! It's funny, the most satisfaction I've always got from flightsims is following checklists and learning how to program systems, the actual manual flying has always come last and I've never realized that. But it's exciting that after all these years I have so much learning to do and I'm looking forward to it! Thanks again, all
  9. I've been into this hobby for decades. Flipping and flopping between DCS and Xplane and MSFS and all the rest. I'm pretty good at loading in SIDS and STARS, figuring out how aircraft work, taking off and landing, firing munitions, etc. What I'm not good at is just being a regular ol civilian private pilot. I guess it's partially a function of just wanting to learn a plane, take off, do the thing, and land But now I want to get deeper with Pilotedge or Vatsim, and I'm learning very quickly that I don't have nearly as many skills as I thought I did. For example, getting myself into a 45 degree angle on a downwind *IS HARD!!!* So I'm asking. Is it ok if I rely on GPS? The idea of learning VOR on steam instruments seems insurmountable. I only have so many hours in the day. I'd be like that guy who you see on YOUTUBE getting yelled at by ATC because his IPad ran out of charge... but my iPad would never run out of charge! I guess I'm asking for permission to cheat because I want to learn about going through different airspace and operating out of and into individual airports correctly, but always be tethered to GPS. is that OK? (I can take a PMDG from KORD to KBOS and grease the landing following all the SIDS and STARS... but it's exponentially more difficult for me to go from KPDX to KRDM with a Cessna without the FMC and figuring out where the pattern is... etc.)
  10. I can honestly say the same. Maybe 1 CTD in thousands of flights, and who knows if that had anything to do with the sim and not some freak out by my computer or connection? If you're into flightsims, there is no reason to wait, unless you're struggling so hard with cash you would put aside a hobby for so long to save a few bucks.
  11. Lest we forget, PilotEdge is 30 bucks a month and you get highly trained humans to interact with you. Fly as much as you want. Real as F word. This is for us wimps who are scared to do it for real. (and I know the coverage is limited, but the point applies)
  12. It seems to me, if the ATC works well, you're choosing to drive a Ferrari and paying all the accepted costs for that choice if you want the super duper option. Where as someone could drive a perfectly practical Honda Civic which will get them from A to B and a nice enough ride. You're paying for extravagance iffin' ya wanna.
  13. I don't understand how the pricing is controversial I sincerely don't. As long as the functioning piece of the ATC works well, the basic no money voices sound better than nearly everything available. If you wanna be a pimp and hear super realistic voices? Right now it's super expensive, but it's an option! Until we know if the bones of this software works correctly, we're arguing about how much a pair of Jordans costs as opposed to WalMart brand shoes without even knowing if they fit. It's silly, right?
  14. Welp... Not well. I'm pretty sure most people would have survived, but... Lol.. I have more practice to do. I seem to remember if you have the KPDX after market airport installed, the ILS glideslopes get a little... mmm bad. That's what I'm going with though! I had a lot of fun tonight regardless if 150 or so people have at minimum concussions or at worst not alive.
  15. Going back to KPDX... I'll let you all know how it goes.
