  1. You are probably correct Spirit_66 that things are messed up now but the initial actions were reasonable: Downloaded Prepar3d. Installed as administrator. Setup ran as administrator. Registration online was successful. Program displayed splash screen. It disappeared giving the desktop. Neither the reliability monitor or logs have shown any problem naming P3D. Cruachan I am reluctant to remove Norton as the annual subscription has just recently been renewed and you are correct, I am not willing to do a clean install of windows and all my other software. I’ve tried your suggestions with Norton disabled (not uninstalled) but still no luck. Now I have decided to give up as this is taking up too much of my time. I have had none of these problems with other software. Although other can run P3D on their Windows 8.x machines I am surprised to have so much trouble from commercial software. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice it was very much appreciated. Now I will wait to see if future update to P3D v2.5 solves my problem. Until then I will stick with FSX and FTX Orbyx as I have had no problems with that system.
  2. Just checked the Checksum vonmar and it is O.K. Jim I have tried with and without internet connection as it is a wired only connection.
  3. Done installation with both full download and with the individual part version. Have not checked Checksum. No C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Shaders folder infact no C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 exists P3D in C:\Lockheed Martin One monitor. No Sim Pit Not overclocked but can run at 3.7 to 3.9GHz in turbo mode Home built. Tried to post image as png or Jpeg by drag and drop but message said wrong format?
  4. Tried this many times - no luck. When this splash screen disappears, P3D disappears from the processes in the task manager.
  5. Looked in Administrative events but nothing relating to P3D or FSX even. No addons in P3D by the way just the basic install. Tried your suggestions Jim. Still no luck though. Have printed off CTD guide and will look through this. Thanks for all your suggestions. Glad FSX still runs well.
  6. Thanks for confirming I was looking in the correct place. Surprisingly nothing in here at all, not even warnings.
  7. Tried with the timing and multiple runs of P3D. Still can't see anything in the event viewer. Which area do you suggest as I have looked in many areas and tried to search events for P3D? Only found notes of successful installs and uninstalls. Stopped loads of processes in task manager incuding Norton. Still no luck. Reposted in P3D forum, now getting replies - thanks.
  8. Had no reply from the P3D forum. Posted over 2 weeks ago. P3D disappears from the task manager when the splash screen disappears. Have downloaded again and reinstalled. Still the same. Glad FSX works fine. Can't believe an old program works but a new one does not. Very fed up now as I purchased it in November. I did not expect a troubleshooting job with the program. I still appreciate all the advice even though I can't get it to run.
  9. Splash sreen only displays for about 8 second then normal desktop displays.Tried reinstall as administrator with anti-virus software off, UAC off. Reinstall not in programs (x86) folder. Still no difference. Can't download with anti-virus and firewall off as the download takes over 15 hours at our broadband speed. Based on what Spirit_66 posts I am surprised that when I run Windows 8.1 compatibiliy troubleshooter it gives me the message - incompatible program.
  10. Don't have FSDT scenery. Not a black screen after the splash screen but the normal desktop. Users/name/App Data/Local/Lockheed Martin/Local/Prepar3d v2/ is not present. Users/name/App Data/Lockheed Martin/Roaming/Prepar3D v2 does exist. Renaming the Prepar3d V2 file cfg file does not solve the problem. Windows 8.1 compatibiliy troubleshooter says incompatible program but no difference running in any other O.S. mode.
  11. Yes, NO, Yes-Norton but no problems with this before, Yes.
  12. Can't see anything in the event viewer. Multiple restarts don't help I'm afraid. Prepar3d is shown in the task manager processes tab until the splash screen disappears.
  13. Prepar3D v2.4 was installed and registration completed with no problem. On running the splash screen displays for a while then nothing. It was uninstalled then reinstalled. Still the same. FSX runs fine. System Intel i5 4690k 3.5GHz 4 core Asus z97k motherboard Asus GeForce GTX 760 graphic card Windows 8.1 pro 8gb memory 2tb hard drive
